Your input in the Virginia CWCS is important to us! To help us succeed in that effort, we are hosting two sets of community meetings around the state to gather information directly from you about the resource needs and issues you have, and your suggestions for addressing those challenges.

The State of the Environment

During November and December, 2004, DGIF sponsored 14 meetings around Virginia to gather community input on what Virginians thought was working well in the state with regard to wildlife and habitat conservation, and why it worked well; what they thought needed improvement in Virginia with regard to wildlife and habitat conservation, and how; their input on threats to wildlife and habitats that the Commonwealth is facing and will be facing in the next decade; and priorities for addressing those threats.

Nearly 150 individuals attended these meetings and provided hundreds of comments for consideration by DGIF and its partners. More information about the results of these sessions may be found in the meeting summary (CWCS_2004_Stakeholders_Report.pdf).

Taking the Next Step

The DGIF is hosting a second round of community meetings in April 2005. These interactive sessions will provide you with more information about the work completed to date on the CWCS. We will also be asking you to more fully evaluate the issues identified in 2004 and discuss conservation actions needed to address them.
